When is the Île-à-la-Crosse 250 Celebration taking place?

The main celebration will take place July 3-8, 2026, in the community of Île-à-la-Crosse, Saskatchewan. Activities are also being planned throughout the year to mark this historic milestone.

 

What can I expect during the July 3-8 event?

A week of vibrant, family-friendly programming including:

  • Opening ceremonies at the historic Grotto

  • A reenactment of the Treaty 10 signing

  • Canoe arrivals, parades, and cultural performances

  • Jigging and square dancing competitions for cash prizes

  • Canoe races, voyageur games, and traditional sports

  • Bingo and Poker Rally

  • Music and entertainment

  • Youth and Elders' programming

  • Food, art, and Métis and Dene storytelling

 

Do I need to register or buy tickets?

Most events will be free and open to the public. BlackHawk tickets must be purchased in advanced. Please visit the homepage and follow the link to secure your seat. Other activities may require pre-registration or have limited space. Check back closer to the event for details.

 

I used to live in Île-à-la-Crosse. Am I invited?

Yes! This is a homecoming celebration. All past and present residents are warmly invited to return and be part of this historic gathering. Keep an eye out for special "Come Home" invitations and features.

 

Will there be moments of reflection or commemoration?

Yes. In addition to celebrating the community's 250-year legacy, there will be opportunities to reflect on our shared history, including an Orange Shirt memorial and visits to local landmarks.

 

Is this celebration open to everyone, even if l'm not from Île-à-la-Crosse or not Métis?

Yes! Everyone is welcome. The Île-à-la-Crosse 250th Celebration is a time for sharing stories, culture, and community spirit. We invite people from all cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life to join us in honouring this historic Métis community. Whether you're local, a visitor, or just curious, you're invited.

Is it safe to attend? What about wildlife, wildfires, or weather?

Ile-à-la-Crosse is a peaceful and welcoming northern community, and the organizing team is taking all necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for guests. July weather is usually warm, but conditions can vary.

 

Visitors should:

  • Be prepared for changing weather (bring rain gear, sunscreen, and bug spray)

  • Follow all safety signs and guidance, especially near wooded areas or the water

  • Stay alert to wildfire updates. We will monitor conditions and share any advisories

  • Respect local wildlife-do not approach or feed animals

 

Trained staff and volunteers will be on hand throughout the event to assist with safety, medical needs, and visitor support.

 

Is this a family-friendly event?

Absolutely! The celebration is designed to welcome people of all ages, with dedicated programming for youth, Elders, and families

 

Where can I stay during the celebration?

Ile-à-la-Crosse will be offering several accommodation options, including:​

  • A local motel and Airbnbs

  • RV rentals and parking

  • Guests bringing their own campers or RVs are encouraged to notify organizers in advance to reserve a spot

How do I get to Île-à-la-Crosse?

Ile-à-la-Crosse is accessible by highway in northern Saskatchewan. The main highway that leads to Île-à-la-Crosse is Highway 908. This highway connects to Highway 155, which is located 21 km northwest of Île-à-la-Crosse. Highway 908 provides year-round road access to the community. Final travel details, maps, and parking options will be posted on the website in early 2026.
